Cathedral Place, LimerickGoogle MapsArrow
  • This street gets its name from its close proximity to St. John’s Cathedral.
  • It was one of ten venues for the 32nd edition of EVA in 2008 curated by Hou Hanru, (b. 1963, China). That year Taro Shinoda (b. 1964, Japan; d. 2022) exhibited Telephone Line (Moon) (2007–08), a three-channel video work which was projected onto the ceiling of the vacant property. Visitors were invited to enter into a dark room, where they could lie down to view the work.
  • It was also one of six venues used in the 29th edition of EVA, curated by Dan Cameron (b. 1956, USA), when Nancy Hwang (b. 1971, Korea) presented a performance installation titled Host (2005).
  • The performance involved the artist placing an advertisement asking local residents of Limerick to stay as guests in her apartment during her short stay in the city.  Everyday occurrences such as cooking together, household chores, and visits to the pub were documented as part of the process.
