  • The Foundation Building is a central part of the University of Limerick, initially established as the National Institute for Higher Education in Limerick in 1972, it became the University of Limerick in 1989.
  • Located in this building is the University Concert Hall, regarded as a cultural hub in the Midwest region for hosting classical recitals, stand up comedy, pantomimes, musicians as well as the University’s ceremonies.
  • This site was one of seventeen venues used for the 40th EVA International Biennial in 2023, curated by Sebastian Chichocki and titled The Gleaners Society.
  • At this venue, Lala Meredith-Vula (b. 1966) presented Haystacks (1989 – ongoing), Photographs from an ongoing series that depict farmers’ haystacks in Kosovo and Albania. Presented as a typology, the photographs emphasise the vernacular form of the haystack, while also evoking the monolithic character of modern sculpture. They are works that not only blur the line between agrarian tradition and artistic practice, but also the distinction between form and utility.
