St. Munchin’s College is an institute specialising in Christian education in Corbally, Limerick.
The school was founded in 1796 as Limerick Diocesan College, and this building was opened in 1963 by the Irish president, Éamon de Valera.
For many centuries, Irish theological schools had been suppressed and students for the priesthood had to be educated outside Ireland.
This site was one of 23 venues for the 31st edition of EVA in 2007, curated by Klaus Ottmann (b. 1964, Germany).
St. Munchin’s College was one of numerous sites of a project by Miriam Lohan (b. 1975, Ireland) titled Ringing Limerick. On 7 May 2007, between 11:15am and 11:45am, the artist organised 13 churches around Limerick city to ring their bells simultaneously.
This performance was recorded and available to listen to after the event.
