Officially opened in June 2018 the Glucksman Library, part of the University of Limerick Campus, is the biggest academic library in Ireland – and one of the most digitally advanced archives in the world.
The library is named after the Glucksman family, Lew and Loretta Glucksman, long-time supporters of the university.
Within the library is an Automated Reserve Collection facility (ARC), a 10 metre-high vault storing over 500,000 books, operated by a robotic crane retrieval system.
The Glucksman Library was one of seventeen venues used for the 40th EVA International Biennial in 2023, curated by Sebastian Chichocki and titled The Gleaners Society.
In this space, film and artist collective Freefilmers presented three works, [Vasyl Lyah] Metawork, 2021, [Sashko Protyah and Oksana Kazmina] Revitalization of Space, 2018, and [Sashko Protyah] My Favorite Job, 2022. These films explore urban transformation in East Ukraine as a consequence of the full-scale invasion of Russian forces in Ukraine and the destruction of Mariupol.
