Slattery’s Bar

This single-channel video reflected the artist’s research into the nature versus nurture debate within the context of family and the intricate relationships that exist in its confines.

 was a city-wide tracking project, in which cigarette lighters with tracking devices were surreptitiously left to be picked up by members of the public. The artists monitored the movement of the lighters across the city, creating a map of the city that was later exhibited in City Hall, Merchants Quay.

South’s Pub

This work consisted of a monologue, delivered by a person in a tiger costume, about the economic landscape of Ireland. The text was written by by Ciáran O’Driscoll and performed by Patrick Keaveney.

A multi-channel installation of the duo’s famous film documenting a long causal chain of everyday objects and industrial materials, assembled in their studio in Zürich.

This ‘spoken word film festival’ comprised a series of films chosen by the artist, curator, and participants. Participants would take turns at the microphone, relating the premise of the selected film. The venue was chosen as it conformed to certain conditions: a place of conviviality and storytelling, of meeting, of drinking, a place where it would not be surprising if someone were to stand up and speak.

Like many cities and towns in Ireland, Limerick has numerous bars and pubs, which have formed the traditional backbone of social life. As sites of social congregation and informality, they have served as places of particular interest for contemporary artists who are interested in these themes. 

Listed here are a number of bars and pubs that have been host to EVA projects over the years. Many have changed hands. The artworks no longer remain. But they chart the ways in which contemporary artists have sought to penetrate the social fabric of the city, beyond the traditional presentation formats of the gallery or museum.
